MP backs biodiesel tax break project

Liberal Democrat MP Andrew George is backing a campaign to keep tax breaks for companies who produce biodiesel.

Producers converting cooking oil into biodiesel presently gain from a 20p differential however that is because of end next April.

The St Ives MP, who leads the Lib Dem Environment Team, has been meeting the UK sustainable alliance.

Mr George said "a variety of little companies in Cornwall currently earn money from used cooking oil".

He added: "In order to be able to get this kind of industry going it does require simply a bit of lift which comes in the type of tax foregone."

Biodiesel is a mix of conventional diesel, rapeseed and vegetable oils.
